LONDON Holiday and Tourism Information for the
Badminton Events - 2012 Olympic
|
|
BADMINTON The game of badminton
may have its origins in 19th century India but it is now a
worldwide sport. It made its first appearance at the Olympic
Games as a demonstration event in Munich 1972, finally
becoming a full medal sport at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.
At the 2012 London Games, badminton events are scheduled to
take place at the new North Greenwich Arena 2 (July 28 to
August 4), an indoor facility being built specially for
the Games at Greenwich, London, with a seating capacity of
6,000. After the Olympics the structure will be relocated
elsewhere in the UK. If it is not built, an alternative will
involve staging the event at London’s ExCel Centre.
