LONDON Holiday and Tourism Information for the
Cycling Events - 2012 Olympic
CYCLING
A pioneering VeloPark
is being built to host the 2012 cycling events (July 28 to
August 12) in the north of London’s new Olympic Park). It
will include a 6,000-seat Velodrome for indoor cycling
competitions as well as an Olympic BMX circuit.
Designs for the VeloPark were first unveiled by triple Beijing
gold medal-winning Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy.
Road races will take place at London’s Regent’s Park while a
mountain bike course is to be created at Hadleigh Farm in
Essex.
Road and Track Cycling have been Olympic events since the
first modern Games in Athens in 1896. Mountain bike racing was
only added in 1996 and BMX in 2008.
