LONDON Holiday and Tourism Information for the
Fencing Events - 2012 Olympic
FENCING
The ExCel International Exhibition Centre in
London’s Docklands is to be the venue for the 2012 Olympic
fencing events
(July
28 to August 5).
This will involve more than 200 men and women competing for
just 10 medals.
The sport first featured in the Olympics in 1896 and has been
part of the Olympic programme ever since. It was the first
Olympic sport to include professionals. Women’s fencing first
appeared at the Paris Games in 1924. Three types of sword –
the foil, the epee and the sabre - are used.
