FOOTBALL Six top soccer
stadiums will stage matches as part of a 2012 Olympics plan to
spread sporting events across the United Kingdom.
The football tournament (July 28 to August 11) will
involve teams from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and
Wales. Sixteen men's teams and 10 women's teams will take
part.
Each of the venues will hold preliminary round matches before
the finals of both the men’s and women’s events take place at
London’s iconic Wembley Stadium. The men’s tournament is open
to under-23 teams with no more than three over-age players.
The venues are:
Hampden Park, Glasgow; the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; Old
Trafford, Manchester; St James's Park, Newcastle; Villa Park,
Birmingham, and Windsor Park, Belfast.
