London’s
multi-purpose ExCel International Exhibition Centre will play
host to the 2012 Games’ table tennis tournaments (July 28
to August 7). The venue lies in the heart of east London’s
Royal Docks and has its own 100-acre waterfront campus.
The sport of ‘ping pong’ is the world’s biggest participation
sport and first featured on an Olympic programme at Seoul in
1998. Most of the top players come from Asia and the sport has
been dominated for some time by the Chinese, although it
appears to have originated as a game played by the English
upper classes.
